Soft Christmas Peppermints (Old-Fashioned Butter Mints)
Creamy, melt-in-your-mouth, and full of holiday charm—these little mints are an old-fashioned classic that never goes out of style!
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp peppermint extract
3 cups powdered sugar
1/4 tsp salt
Red gel food coloring (optional)
Granulated sugar (for rolling or dusting)
Instructions
- Mix
Beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy. Add the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract; mix well. - Combine
Gradually add the powdered sugar and salt. Stir until the mixture becomes thick, soft, and slightly sticky—like a moldable dough. - Divide
Split the dough in half. Tint one half with red gel food coloring and leave the other half white. - Shape
Roll each color into thin logs. Twist the two logs together, then gently roll to combine. Cut into small cubes or shape into rounds. - Dry
Place the mints on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow them to air-dry for 6 hours or overnight until firm on the outside. - Finish
For a sparkly touch, roll each mint in granulated sugar. - Store
Keep the mints in an airtight container at room temperature. They stay soft and delicious for days!
