Lavender Earl Grey Sugar Cookies 🍪🌸☕
Soft, fragrant, and lightly floral—these cookies blend buttery sweetness with elegant Earl Grey tea and a hint of lavender. Perfect with afternoon tea or as a unique, calming treat.
✨ Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup granulated sugar
1–2 tbsp Earl Grey tea leaves (from about 2–3 tea bags)
½–1 tsp culinary lavender, finely crushed
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: ½ tsp lemon zest for brightness
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prep the Tea & Lavender
Grind the Earl Grey tea leaves and lavender slightly using a mortar & pestle (or rub between fingers).
This releases aroma and blends better into the dough.
- Mix the Dough
- In a bowl, whisk together: flour, baking powder, salt, Earl Grey, and lavender.
- In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until fluffy (2–3 minutes).
- Add the egg and vanilla; mix until smooth.
- Add dry ingredients to wet and mix just until combined—do not overmix.
- Chill
Wrap the dough and chill for 30–60 minutes.
This prevents spreading and intensifies flavor.
- Shape the Cookies
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Scoop 1–2 tbsp portions of dough, roll into balls, and place on a lined baking sheet.
Gently press down each one slightly.
- Bake
Bake 10–12 minutes until the edges look set but the centers remain soft.
Cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then move to a rack.
🌸 Optional Glaze
