💚 Grinch Oreo Truffles 🎄
Ingredients
For the Truffle Centers:
36 original chocolate sandwich cookies (about 1 standard package)
6 ounces full-fat brick-style cream cheese, softened to room temperature
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For Coating & Decoration:
12 ounces bright green candy melting wafers
24 edible candy eyes
48 small red heart sprinkles or red round sprinkles
2 tablespoons red candy melting wafers (optional, for piping)
Instructions
Create the Cookie Base: Place the entire chocolate sandwich cookies (cream filling included) into the bowl of a food processor. Pulse repeatedly until the mixture forms uniform, fine crumbs with no large pieces remaining.
Form the Truffle Dough: Transfer the cookie crumbs to a medium mixing bowl. Add the softened cream cheese and vanilla extract. Using a sturdy spatula or your clean hands, mix and knead until the cream cheese is fully incorporated and a uniform, pliable dough forms. It should hold together when pressed.
Shape the Bites: Line a baking sheet or tray with parchment paper. Using a small cookie scoop or a measuring teaspoon, portion the dough, rolling each portion between your palms to form a smooth, compact 1-inch ball. Place each ball on the prepared tray. Once all dough is shaped, cover the tray and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or freeze for 20-30 minutes, until very firm.
Prepare the Coating: Place the bright green candy melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring thoroughly between each interval, until the candy is completely smooth and fluid. Do not overheat.
Coat the Bites: Remove the chilled truffle balls from the refrigerator. Using a fork or a dipping tool, submerge one ball at a time into the melted green candy, ensuring it’s fully coated. Gently tap the fork against the side of the bowl to allow excess coating to drip off. Carefully place the coated truffle back onto the parchment-lined tray. Immediately, while the coating is still wet, gently press two candy eyes and a single red heart sprinkle (point-down) onto the top to create the Grinch’s face. Repeat with all truffles.
Set and Optional Detail: Allow the candy coating to set completely at room temperature, about 15-20 minutes. For an added touch, you can melt the red candy wafers, place them in a small piping bag or plastic bag with the corner snipped, and draw a small, mischievous smile beneath the eyes on each truffle.
Serve or Store: Once fully set, the truffles are ready to serve. Store them in a single layer in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
