Meatballs with Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Carrots & Peas

Introduction

A true comfort food classic! Juicy meatballs simmered in rich, savory gravy, served alongside creamy mashed potatoes, tender carrots, and sweet peas. Perfect for a hearty family dinner any day of the week.


🍖 Meatballs & Gravy

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or pork (or a mix)

½ cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

ÂĽ cup milk

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt & black pepper, to taste

2 tbsp oil (for frying)

For the Gravy:

2 tbsp butter

2 tbsp flour

2 cups beef broth

Salt & black pepper, to taste

(Optional: Worcestershire sauce or onion powder for extra depth)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs – Mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Shape into 1-inch balls.
  2. Cook the Meatballs – Heat oil in a pan and brown meatballs until fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy – In the same pan, melt butter. Stir in flour to make a roux.
  4. Slowly add beef broth, whisking until smooth and thickened. Season to taste.
  5. Combine & Simmer – Return meatballs to the pan, coat with gravy, and simmer for 5–10 minutes.

🥔 Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed

½ cup milk

ÂĽ cup butter

Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until tender.
  2. Drain, mash with butter and milk, then season with salt.

🥕 Carrots & Peas

Instructions

Carrots – Steam or boil baby carrots until tender. Toss with a little butter and black pepper.

Peas – Steam or boil green peas until tender. Season with salt or a knob of butter.


🍴 Serving Suggestion

Spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes onto each plate, top with meatballs and rich gravy, and serve with buttered carrots and peas on the side. A balanced, comforting meal that everyone will love!
